James Dean Festival: Fairmont & Gas City Indiana for the 50th anniversary of his fatal crash. Red lipstick kisses and flowers forever surround James Dean's pink granite gravestone, testifying to the enduring allure of the man who, 50 years after his death, remains a symbol of rebellious, misunderstood youth. Although I shot over 500 photos over the three day trip, I picked a round 40 that I thought best represented the entire trip.

Star Wars Premier (Episode III - Revenge of the Sith) at the Ziegfeld Theater. It was a little too much Chaos for my taste and I bailed right after Samuel L. Jackson showed up. I wanted to wait for Natalie but it was more than I could deal with. Don't get me wrong, I loved Star Wars but than again that was 1977 and I was six. The Empire Strikes Back was, and is, even better. I loved the more complex plot, the surprise revelation and the dark ending. But it has been downhill since 1980 for the Star Wars series and The Return of the Jedi should have been its merciful conclusion. Attack of the Clones was an apology for the awful The Phantom Menace, but it sucked to. In the galaxy there are only three universal truths. First, life is short. Second, people are stupid. And third, with the exception of a scant few, sequels to good movies suck--hard.

The Other Hollywood Book Release Party: These photos were taken at the Museum of Sex, it was a party for the new book The Other Hollywood, The Uncensored Oral History of the Porn Film Industry by Legs McNeil, Peter Pavia, and Jennifer Osborne . "This story deserves at least one person to do it right, to take it seriously," said McNeil. "You don't know how many guys came up to me while I was doing this and said, [affecting dumb jock voice] Hey, man, need any help with the research?' Right. I told them, you want to go to Columbus, Ohio, and look at pictures of dead kids?'" [from a Mob hit, related to porn distribution].

Idiotarod 2005 Rolling pageant and grueling endurance race known as the 2005 IDIOTAROD. Teams of five race a stolen shopping cart from Fulton Ferry Pier in Brooklyn to Tompkins Square Park in Manhattan; a five mille race. If that isn't enough there are sabotage teams stationed throughout the city to attack the various teams. There is no official route, the race includes a start, two checkpoints and a finish line. It's up to you to choose your own route, factoring in street surfaces, traffic, pedestrians and snow accumulation. Teams must be on foot at all times, bikes, roller-blades, jets, or rocket packs are not permitted. That also means no subways, cars, vans or taxies.

St. Lucia Pageant 2004: Saint Lucia was a saint because of her kindness and her love. She was an Italian Christian who lived in Sicily in the 4th century. Some people believe she once visited Sweden. December 13th is also her feast day. The way she became a saint was that a man who loved her and Lucia didn't like him, Lucia's mother asked her to marry the man but she refused so the man heard about this and he said he would burn her. But Lucia prayed to God to have the power to survive the fire. Because of her kindness to others her wish was granted. The man tried to burn her but she had the power to withstand fire so the man got a sword and stuck it into Lucia's throat. Still Lucia survived for three more hours speaking beautifal words.

2004 Republican National Convention: "The Republican National Committee will make history by coming to New York City for the 2004 National Convention," said Mayor Bloomberg. "This is an incredible boost for New York City and the Republican National Committee's decision shows that if you want to promote your ideas and vision for the country, there's no place better in the world to do it than New York City. I can't thank President Bush and the Republican National Committee enough for their faith in New York."

The Mermaid Festival 2004 is a completely original creation that is that nation's largest art parade and one of New York City's greatest summer events.

Founded in 1983 by Coney Island USA, the not-for-profit arts organization that also produces the Coney island Circus Sideshow, the Mermaid Parade pays homage to Coney Island's forgotten Mardi Gras which lasted from 1903 to 1954, and draws from a host of other sources resulting in a wonderful and wacky event that is unique to Coney Island.

The Mermaid Parade celebrates the sand, the sea, the salt air and the beginning of summer, as well as the history and mythology of Coney Island, Coney Island pride, and artistic self-expression. The Parade is characterized by participants dressed in hand-made costumes as Mermaids, Neptunes, various sea creatures, the occasional wandering lighthouse, Coney Island post card or amusement ride, as well as antique cars, marching bands, drill teams, and the odd yacht pulled on flatbed.
